Role profile
Our IT Services team have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as a Platforms & Networks Operations Engineer. The successful candidate will provide 3rd line level support of Osborne Clarke's global Data and Voice Network Infrastructure, Platforms, Servers and Systems, whilst playing key roles in migrations and deployments enabling OC to sustain a well-established cloud-first approach.
This is a permanent position based out of our Bristol office, combined with some home working.
What you'll do
You will provide a comprehensive level of support to the global business for Osborne Clarke's physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure, connectivity including wired and wireless networks, and key services such as e-mail, telephony and SaaS, PaaS & IaaS platforms.
Key duties will also include:
- Provide professional support to Osborne Clarke so that our clients receive consistently excellent services. Understand and adopt the principles of acting as a professional service provider.
- Support and follow Incident, Request, Change and Problem Management procedures alongside other IT Services teams, aligned with the ITIL framework.
- Supporting, operating and managing the delivery of the operational platforms, hardware, operating systems and core technologies, including provision, documentation, maintenance etc.
- Assist with specific escalations from the out-of-hours support team, where IT operations expertise is required, following an on-call rota in the team.
- Maintaining and developing the integrity and security of all components comprising various client’s network and operational platforms, including all data.
- Working in collaboration with suppliers and other IT services teams to ensure the smooth delivery of such products to the firm.
- Contribute to testing processes and support infrastructure for internally or externally developed applications/implementations.
- Awareness of advances in technology, new software applications and new hardware in order to serve as an advisor to other employees.
You will be
We are looking for someone who is used to working in a demanding Operations team with a high level of personal responsibility. We'll expect you to have good knowledge of cloud and virtualisation technologies, networking principles and Windows Server architecture and services. Alongside this, a good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and the Azure platform will also be needed. Further technical requirements can be found below:
Technical requirements
- ITIL or IT Service Management experience
- Azure framework, IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and security products
- PowerShell, Terraform, General Scripting, Applying AI
- Azure networking, Express Route, Load Balancers
- Zscaler ZPA and ZIA, Client Connector, Zero Trust Security
- Managing suppliers in WAN/LAN & Internet communications, VPN Management
- Experience of Switch & WiFi deployment. Extreme Networks & XIQ Cloud is beneficial
- Working knowledge of networking standards, hardware, protocols
- Physical Infrastructure: Network/Server Hardware, Cabling, Datacentres
- Network monitoring and management systems, Solarwinds HCO with NPM
- Microsoft Exchange Online with Exchange 2019 hybrid on-prem.
- Microsoft Entra ID and Office 365 with M365 E5 licensing
- Unified Communications ideally Microsoft Teams with telephony partners
- Security Solutions such as Checkpoint and Azure-based firewalls
- Server and PC operating systems, including Windows 2016/2019/2022 Server, basic Linux
- Patch management with Azure Update Management Center, Solarwinds App Insight monitoring
- Microsoft SQL Server deployment, licensing and Azure SQL management
- ESXi / VMware 8 and later with vSphere experience is beneficial

- Able to create and maintain records with high attention to detail
- Will be proficient in cloud, hardware and software products and deliver accurate documentation, reports and processes as needed
- Will have the ability to multi-task and oversee multiple projects with tight deadlines and perform accurately under such time pressures and constraints
