This is an excellent opportunity where you will hold the Principal C&I Engineer position on a major Energy project. Within this sector, Costain deliver projects to industry leading clients across a number of phases. Whether it be a concept study, FEED or EPCm project, you will work as part of multi-discipline team to deliver best in class engineering on time and to budget. Our pipeline provides the opportunities to work in a variety of areas from brownfield Oil and Gas assets to cutting edge Hydrogen production and storage. This is a hybrid role with 2/3 days based at the Manchester office with the option for dynamic working.
Senior Engineers will be considered for the position. Responsibilities and experience requirements will be reduced accordingly with job role requirements being addressed by a gap analysis and development plan
Responsibilities
This is an exciting and challenging role where you will perform or support the Lead Design engineer position on one or more Projects. A range of projects from Concept Studies through to Detailed Design provide a variety of interesting work. Industries can range across Water, Transport and Energy including Green Energy, Nuclear and Oil and Gas
As a client facing C&I Engineer, your responsibilities could involve:
Responsibility for instrument discipline technical input for projects and/or proposals; including preparation, checking and/or approval of engineering documentation Organising discipline staff, allocating work and ensuring delivery against plan Mentoring and developing graduates and less experienced engineers Production of high-quality C&I engineering deliverables to schedule, budget and client satisfaction Ensuring all applicable and international codes of practice, legislation and company/client standards and procedures are complied with Preparing equipment and materials requisitions for control systems, safety systems, analyser houses, field instrumentation and other instrument equipment Preparing installation scopes of works Reviewing supplier's quotations and preparing technical bid assessments
More specific tasks could include:
Full life-cycle development (hardware and software) of either control or protection systems Software qualification of SMART devices and PLCs Functional Safety determination (both probabilistic and deterministic) Preparation of C&I equipment datasheets and specifications Production and modification of C&I safety cases and / or cyber security cases
Qualifications
Degree in relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Electronic / Electrical / Control Engineering) Apprenticeships may be considered
Chartered or Incorporated engineer status with a relevant professional body or evidence of being close to gaining these professional titles
knowledge of design working practices and installation requirements of the discipline across a range of industries.
15 years engineering experience in the Oil & Gas, Nuclear and/or Water sectors
Extensive knowledge of UK legislation and standards
Competence in the specification and design of Safety Instrumented systems in line with IEC 61511 and IEC 61508
Competence in the requirements for installation of instrumentation in process plants involving potentially explosive areas
Experience in the requirements for CE marking of plant and equipment, including ATEX, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive and EMC Compliance
Awareness of risk identification, quantification, management and of HSE requirements
