Overview

Principal Electrical Engineer – multiple current openings in the UK across multiple offices. Lead as a Principal Electrical Engineer/Lead Design Engineer on one or more projects within energy/building services contexts, delivering high-quality engineering solutions to clients. Work spans from concept studies and FEED through to EPCm delivery on various projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor technical design teams delivering complex electrical engineering projects.
  • Lead electrical design work across building services or infrastructure projects (LV/HV, motor control centres, switchgear, electrical installations) and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Prepare briefs, scopes of work, specifications, and input into bid proposals.
  • Manage time, budget, and project milestones; oversee contract administration, on-site supervision, and commissioning where applicable.
  • Ensure quality assurance and compliance with design standards; lead and coordinate with UK and overseas teams to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Undertake feasibility studies, surveys, and production of SLD/BCD; ensure proper earthing and bonding, and compliance with HAZOP, DSEAR/ATEX where relevant.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers; contribute to bids, proposals, and tender documentation.
  • Support business development and client relationship management; participate in client-facing activities as required.

What we are looking for

  • Chartered Electrical Engineer (or working towards chartership).
  • Strong experience in building services or infrastructure electrical design (LV/HV), with knowledge of control gear, installations, and industrial/process environments.
  • Experience leading design delivery, including multidisciplinary design; proficient with electrical design software (e.g., Trimble, Amtech) and UK design standards.
  • Strong knowledge of DSEAR/ATEX installation practices, LSH/SLD/BCD production, earthing and bonding; familiarity with UK standards and industry practices.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project-delivery skills; ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in design tools and software; ability to work across sectors (water, energy, aviation, defence, and built environment).
