Principal Electro-Mechanical Engineer (H/F) - SAFRAN ELECTRICAL & POWER UK LTDOverview: This role exists to ensure that electromechanical product designs, processes and procedures are applied robustly across the Engineering Department. The role provides correct support, guidance and technical oversight to ensure designs of Generators, Motors and associated product lines are fit for purpose, of high quality, cost efficient and developed with a Right First Time approach to meet business and customer needs. The role holder will provide specialist mechanical engineering guidance and leadership as an internal company specialist to support solving complex engineering problems. Primary responsibility is the technical (electromechanical) definition and steering of R&D / R&T projects by ensuring that the design is technically robust, safe and fit for purpose. Support or ownership of one or more Engineering Work Packages for the Mechanical products. Coordinate a small multidisciplinary team (including Mechanical Design, Stress & Thermal, Supply Chain, Industrialisation, Validation and Verification, and Configuration) to meet project needs. There is no direct line management responsibility, but Product Engineers & Senior Product Engineers report technically to the Work Package Owner / Principal Mechanical Engineer. Deliver engineering solutions that meet Design to Cost and Design to Manufacture requirements against programme deliverables. Ensure all mechanical products consider robust industrialisation (D2I process). Coordinate with other engineering & programme functions.Responsibilities Provide technical oversight and leadership for electromechanical product designs across the Engineering Department. Define and steer R&D / R&T projects (electromechanical) ensuring robust, safe, and fit-for-purpose designs. Own or support Engineering Work Packages for mechanical products. Coordinate a multidisciplinary team (Mechanical Design, Stress & Thermal, Supply Chain, Industrialisation, Validation & Verification, Configuration). Work with Product Engineers to report technically to the Work Package Owner / Principal Mechanical Engineer; no direct reporting line. Deliver solutions that meet Design to Cost and Design to Manufacture requirements against programme deliverables. Promote robust industrialisation (D2I) of mechanical products and coordinate interfaces with other functions. Ensure alignment with aerospace design and development processes, including R&T and R&D (NPI) environments.Qualifications Degree BSc/MSc or equivalent in Engineering and/or proven mechanical design experience (10+ years). Experience in leading, mentoring and overseeing teams. Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of owning tasks and solving problems; strong communication with peers, suppliers and customers. Understanding of engineering materials and production methods relevant to aerospace. Knowledge of aerospace design and development processes, ideally in R&T and R&D (NPI). Structured, self-managing with strategic visibility for team and product management. Leadership and team-management skills with proactive and energetic style. Ability to work to timescales and budgets, and to drive tasks to completion. Ability to liaise with stakeholders, deliver presentations to employees and customers. Experience liaising with customers, suppliers, Safran partners and subcontractors. Analytical problem-solving with creative and effective solutions. Proficiency with software: Microsoft Office, CAD (NX/CATIA), PLM (Windchill/Teamcenter), and ability to review analysis documentation (Stress FEA, Thermal, bearings). Ability to perform, review and present hand calculations. Ability to support generation and maintenance of performance metrics to measure project team quality and delivery, using this data to improve performance.
