Your new role, what’s involved
As a Principal Fire Engineer, you’ll typically work on a variety of projects at once, from a university in Scotland to a high-rise residential tower in London, with many international projects. The goal is to enable innovative architectural design without compromising fire safety.
You’ll run through design information, liaise with other WSP disciplines (Facades, Acoustics, Structures), present designs to local authorities and the Fire Service, and advise the design team on changes to increase building safety. You may learn and use various software packages, fire standards, and participate in team briefings and client updates from the start. We support professional registration via IFE and other professional bodies.
Responsibilities
- Review design information and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams (Facades, Acoustics, Structures)
- Present designs to local authorities and the Fire Service
- Identify changes to improve fire safety and inform the design team
- Engage in project activities and participate in client updates
- Support professional registration pathways (IFE and other bodies)
Qualifications

You will have a BSc (BEng) or MSc (MEng) in Fire, Structural, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Experience in the fire engineering consulting industry is required. This role can be based from any of our UK major offices.
