Principal Engineer - Mechanical

As MWH Treatment embarks on its new journey as one of Northumbrian Water’s (NWL) capital delivery partners (part of NWL’s new Living Water Enterprise Organisation), we are looking to strengthen our Engineering team with a Principal Mechanical Engineer. Based predominantly in the Essex & Suffolk region, you will report directly to the Regional Discipline Lead (Mechanical) or the Senior Design Manager. This role will necessitate traveling to other MWH regions initially to embed and support your career within the MWH Treatment culture.
Our programme of work, across a variety of water and wastewater schemes, is expected to be in the region of £280M.

Key responsibilities will include:
- Report to Design Managers, Technical Discipline Lead, Regional Discipline Lead, and Engineering Manager.
- Produce complex design layouts which are cost-effective, meet the requirements of the specification, and can be constructed and commissioned effectively.
- Production and checking of all design deliverables including specifications, schedules, drawings, and calculations.
- Work alongside other disciplines for the development of site/plant 3D model.
- Ensure that standard designs & practices are utilised wherever possible.
- Deliver the design stage outputs of each project within the agreed timescale and budget.
- Coordinate design outputs across all technical disciplines.
- Maintain competitiveness.
- Provide estimates and feedback for Proposals department.
- Establish working relationships with construction staff and supply chain representatives to promote buildability and supply chain efficiency in design outputs.
- Work to procedures and processes to ensure the continuing development of the department.
- Assist in developing procedures and processes.
- Monitor and review the procedures and processes.
- Write, update, and monitor efficient procedures to aid the smooth running of the department.
- Ensure coordination of designs with all other disciplines internal and external to MWHT to benefit the contract as a whole.
- Maintain files and records throughout the duration of contracts.
- Assure customer satisfaction.
- Chair Operability and Maintenance workshops with the Client to review the solution for operability and maintainability.
- Work within a culture where satisfying the customer is key to achieving other objectives, including all stakeholders.
- Maintain a personal development plan.
- Assist in supervising and developing staff.
- Assist in ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.
- Reduce waste from all departmental activities.
- Ensure designs consider environmental issues.
- Ensure designs comply with all CDM 2015 Regulations and health and safety requirements.
Essential requirements:
- Demonstrable experience and strong knowledge of engineering principles including structures, materials, hydraulics, and environmental engineering.
- Strong understanding of water and sewage treatment principles.
- Experience managing staff in designing water and sewage treatment plants.
- Membership of a professional institution / chartered status.
- Relevant engineering degree.
- Ability to rationalise designs and produce economic plant layouts.
- Good knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, including mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management.
- Knowledge of roles and responsibilities under CDM 2015 Regulations.
- Knowledge of industry standards (BS, WIMES, BSRIA, etc.), HSE regulations (PUWER, LOLER, PSSR 2000, DSEAR, etc.), and water quality regulations.
- Flexible mindset to assimilate large amounts of data.
- Ability to present technical proposals clearly and confidently.
- Computer literacy.
- Driving license.
