Job Description:

The Mechanical Building Services Group forms part of the Facilities Engineering Technical Authority, supporting various business units within Devonport Royal Dockyard (DRD) and the Ministry of Defence (MoD). They provide technical authority and design agency functions, supporting MOD projects at Devonport.

A full-time (35 hrs/week) Principal Mechanical Building Services Engineer is needed to lead Mechanical Building Services projects, primarily overseeing subcontractors' work to ensure compliance with technical, regulatory, and quality standards. The role involves office work with site visits across Devonport, requiring flexibility and agile working with 2 days per week onsite.

Responsibilities include prescribing design requirements, specifying scope of work, supporting tender processes, stakeholder engagement, design oversight, validation, documentation approval, site surveys, and providing technical guidance to staff and subcontractors.

Required qualifications and experience include extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering principles (Steam & Condensate, Industrial Gases, HVAC, etc.), familiarity with BREEAM, DREAM, Building Regulations, experience in design consultancy or contractor environments, team management skills, digital literacy, understanding of design lifecycle, and knowledge of regulations applicable to mechanical systems. Experience in high-hazard industries like nuclear, energy reduction, decarbonisation, and post-installation evaluation is also necessary.
