What You'll Do
- Take a leading role in a number of our most prestigious projects as a principal mechanical engineer.
- Work in a joint leadership capacity within a mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) discipline team providing design and technical advice in a project management capacity on a wide range of projects.
- Supervise the completion of detailed designs and supervise the work of others in this function.
- Consider project feasibility and lead the overall feasibility study.
- Direct others in the production of detailed/performance specifications and take responsibility for client deliverables and internal KPI’s.
- Act as the client’s key point of contact and oversee overall project delivery in terms of client deliverables and internal KPI’s.
Business Development
- Provide excellent client care and opportunities to develop additional business for the team.
- Assist with developing the client relationship to promote new commissions.
- Promote WSP’s capabilities and expertise in the region.
Management
- Take responsibility for and direct others in the production of detailed and performance specifications for the discipline subject to review by colleagues prior to issue.
- Development and line management of junior staff.
- Regularly brief the project team and ensure contracts/letters of intent are in place before work starts.
- Maintain project overview and resource requirements, and ensure resources are fully utilised across associated projects.
- Hold regular team meetings to discuss resourcing, H&S, quality, training and development, and other relevant issues; support the Discipline’s Team Leader as needed.
- Note: Heathrow team is a close group of engineers with a flexible hybrid working model to support work-life balance.
- Lead an engineering delivery team providing innovative and sustainable solutions for mission-critical building and infrastructure projects (e.g., at Europe’s busiest airport).
- Incorporate WSP philosophies of sustainability, net zero carbon, digital design, modern methods of construction and smart systems into design work.
Your Team
- Team comprises approximately 10 engineers and a broader group of 35 engineers across Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health disciplines in Guildford and Basingstoke.
- Core Heathrow-based team with options to work from Southampton, Basingstoke, Guildford, or from home part of the week.
- You will report to the Heathrow Director and be responsible for both technical and project delivery elements, supported by graduate, senior and principal engineers, as well as BIM and Sustainability specialists.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
- Ability to work as part of a team, and to take a leading role in managing engineers toward delivering key projects.
- Strong technical judgment and resourcefulness for feasibility studies, concept, scheme and detailed design, and construction support phases.
- Ability to represent WSP to clients while understanding and delivering client needs in engineering solutions.
- Working knowledge of UK mechanical building services design, relevant standards, codes and regulations, and a proven track record of delivering UK Building Services MEP projects in terms of scale and sector.
- Working understanding of latest mechanical design software to allocate/direction of work on projects.
- Proven experience with Revit MEP or other 3D design software to allocate/direction of work on projects.
- Ability to manage technical, cost and programme elements of project delivery.
