Overview
Principal Mechanical Engineer at Sweco – Peterborough, United Kingdom. This role is part of the Anglian Water @one Alliance portfolio, focusing on delivering AMP8 projects with a strong emphasis on sustainability, carbon reduction and natural capital.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: foster innovative ways of working to achieve sustainable outcomes and represent the @one Alliance as the mechanical engineering authority on quality and compliance issues.
- Discipline Management: develop procedures, standards and guidance to enable a right-first-time approach; support the mechanical design team with resources and methods; provide design direction and manage supplier frameworks.
- Project Delivery: identify value-driven solutions at Stage 1; conduct audits to ensure quality standards; lead resolution of non-compliance issues and competency gaps; provide expert direction on complex design challenges and stakeholder engagement.
- Health & Safety: drive compliance with CDM regulations; conduct audits of mechanical safety standards (e.g., HAZOP, DSEAR) and implement improvements; apply regulations related to mechanical assets in water projects.
- People & Team Development: provide technical leadership, mentoring and career guidance; champion professional development and foster an inclusive and diverse environment.
- Transformation & Innovation: promote a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement; lead adoption of new technologies to advance performance and sustainability.
About You
Strong background in mechanical engineering, preferably within water treatment or similar industries; proven leadership experience with the ability to inspire teams and drive innovation; deep understanding of sustainability principles (carbon reduction, natural capital); excellent communication, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills; passion for mentoring and professional development.
