Overview

We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join us in our office in Leeds or Cambridge. With hybrid working allowing for a combination of in‑office and home working, this role would suit an experienced Mechanical Engineer who wants to take their next step in their career within an industry-leading consultancy by working on exciting projects in the water sector.

Responsibilities

• You will be involved in the whole project life cycle from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support including site surveys and investigations.
• You will liaise with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners and other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for the projects and community.
• You will manage and guide the more junior team members and help with their development.
• You will produce and review technical outputs such as technical specifications and reports, sizing and designing pumping systems and water systems, schedules.
• You will provide engineering input to design outputs in collaboration with other disciplines, such as General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, Control Philosophies, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams.
• You will be able to deliver engineering inputs to design outputs and participate in collaborative design discussions, including technical workshops, safety reviews such as HAZOPs and ALMs.
• You will provide technical leadership to the Flood and Coastal Mechanical team and support the development of junior engineers.
• You will understand how lowland drainage pumping stations operate and gain experience in assessing existing site infrastructure to develop and deliver the mechanical design; you will be aware of the Eel Regulations 2009 and their implications on flood and coastal pumping stations.

Qualifications

• You are an experienced Mechanical Engineer, ideally chartered with the IMechE, with experience in mechanical design and ideally pump station optioneering, design, construction management and commissioning.
• You have experience producing and reviewing technical outputs such as technical specifications and reports, sizing and designing pumping and water systems, and developing schedules.
• You are familiar with collaborative planning reviews and designs of solutions, and providing construction and commissioning services.
• You can provide engineering input to design outputs across disciplines, including General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, Control Philosophies, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams.
• You have strong communication skills and can deliver technical presentations to clients and other design engineers, contributing to collaborative design discussions, including technical workshops and safety reviews (HAZOPs and ALMs).
• You can provide technical leadership to the Flood and Coastal Mechanical team and support the development of junior engineers.
• You understand how lowland drainage pumping stations operate and the regulatory implications of the Eel Regulations 2009.
• You have experience in the energy, infrastructure and water sectors in a mechanical engineering capacity.
