The role

As a Principal Nuclear Facilities Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of our nuclear operations and maintenance team, leading a group of skilled Engineers and acting as a subject matter expert. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant operation of nuclear facilities, making a real impact on national defence and infrastructure. Day-to-day, you’ll manage and coordinate maintenance, repair and breakdown activities across nuclear facilities, including cranes, HVAC, and cooling systems. Other responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing inspections, testing, calibration and commissioning of systems and equipment
  • Ensuring safe operation of plant and processes in line with Nuclear Site Licence and Authorisation Conditions
  • Leading and developing a multidisciplinary team of electrical and mechanical engineers
  • Delivering multiple complex commissioning packages across concurrent projects
  • This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

    Essential experience of the Principal Nuclear Facilities Engineer

  • Strong background in commissioning, operations and maintenance within nuclear or heavy engineering environments
  • Proven knowledge of safe release of systems, Lock Out Tag Out, and Safe Systems of Work
  • Hands-on experience with heavy-duty mechanical systems maintenance and repair
  • Understanding of Licence Site Conditions and Operating Instructions relevant to commissioning
  • Comfortable working at heights
  • Qualifications for the Principal Nuclear Facilities Engineer

  • NVQ Level 4 (or above) in an Engineering discipline, or Level 3 with significant commissioning experience
  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
  • Security Clearance

    The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
