Overview

Principal Protection Engineer role within a global leader in smart infrastructure solutions, joining the Digital Grid division. The company has secured a position on the National Grid 5-Year Light Current Framework, delivering advanced protection and control systems for new and existing substations while prioritizing safety and sustainability. This role offers remote working with occasional travel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of transmission protection and control systems for UK Transmission and Distribution networks.
  • Mentor and support the Protection Engineering team to foster professional growth.
  • Optimize engineering processes to enhance project delivery efficiency.
  • Provide technical leadership in protection and control solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with the latest policies and standards.
  • Support Sales, Proposals, and Operations teams with technical expertise.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong background in protection systems within the National Grid transmission network.
  • Experience with National Grid delivery standards (CDAE essential, TP141 Settings beneficial).
  • Familiarity with industry-standard design and simulation tools (e.g., SIPROTEC, DIGSI).
  • Experience working with National Grid or EPC customers on greenfield and brownfield projects.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering with extensive experience in Electricity Transmission & Distribution.
