The Role

We are seeking an accomplished Principal Sales Engineer to drive the expansion of UK Public Sector accounts. This is a highly technical, client-facing presales position suited to professionals with deep Government/Public Sector experience and the ability to operate in secure, complex environments.

Reporting to the Regional Sales Director, you will serve as a trusted technical advisor, shaping client solutions, supporting the full sales cycle, and ensuring our client’s technology delivers measurable business value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical discovery sessions and provide end-to-end presales support
  • Deliver high-impact demonstrations and presentations to diverse audiences
  • Differentiate solutions with compelling value propositions against competitors
  • Act as a technical authority across government, system integrators, and service providers
  • Influence product roadmaps by relaying client/market feedback to engineering teams
  • Prepare technical documentation, RFP responses, and whitepapers
  • Mentor junior Sales Engineers and join them on client engagements
  • Build and strengthen client relationships, driving upsell and expansion opportunities
  • Represent the company at industry events and strategic forums

What We’re Looking For

  • 15+ years in IT with at least 10 years in presales, network engineering, or technical consultancy
  • Proven success supporting UK Government or public sector clients
  • Ability to translate complex technical requirements into clear commercial value

Strong expertise in

  • Cisco (routing, switching, gateways, applications)
  • Network security, performance, and infrastructure design

Solid understanding of

  • Cloud/virtualisation (SDN/NFV, public & private cloud)
  • Performance tools (HP/OV, Tivoli, ArcSight, EMC SMARTS)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Willingness to travel extensively (60–70% UK-wide)
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent military training
  • MBA or advanced business/leadership qualifications
  • Knowledge of vendors such as Arbor, Radware, Riverbed, A10, ExtraHop
  • Experience authoring whitepapers and contributing to product strategy
  • Familiarity with security audits, RFPs, and mentoring presales teams
