Principal Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) – IaC (Terraform, Pulumi)

Areti are proud to be partnering with an award-winning software house, recognised for its innovation and technical excellence, in the search for a Principal Engineer to join their growing team.

This is a full-time, permanent role offering remote working across the UK with fantastic benefits.

As Principal Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping technical direction, driving cloud automation, and ensuring reliability across large-scale client environments. Beyond hands-on engineering, you’ll also guide and mentor teams, influencing best practices and scaling delivery through automation and tooling.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Own and evolve management of a large Azure cloud estate.
• Define and deliver strategies to scale BAU teams via automation and self-service tooling.
• Improve observability and reporting, ensuring uptime SLAs and SLOs are achieved.
• Diagnose, investigate, and resolve complex escalations.
• Drive enhancements in incident management and reporting processes.
• Lead and oversee critical deployments, change requests, and estate management activities.
• Mentor, coach, and inspire engineers at multiple levels.
• Provide technical leadership.
• Azure DevOps – pipelines, governance, monitoring, and alerting.
• Infrastructure as Code – Pulumi, Terraform (or similar tools such as AWS CloudFormation, Ansible, CDK).
• CI/CD – YAML pipelines, automation, and optimisation.
• Deep understanding of infrastructure observability – monitoring, alerting, SLAs/SLOs.

What We’re Looking For

• Ability to explain and apply key principles of reliability engineering to stakeholders.
• Hands-on experience implementing observability frameworks.
• Track record of leading, mentoring, and coaching engineering teams.
• Comfortable in collaborative, cross-functional environments.
