Propulsion Controls & Calibration Engineer

to lead the development, calibration, and functional safety definition of

Electric Differential (E-Diff)

control systems for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). This role is central to delivering precise torque vectoring, enhanced traction, and dynamic vehicle behaviour through advanced software controls and system-level design. You will be responsible for defining control strategies, authoring functional requirements, calibrating system behaviour, and ensuring compliance with safety standards such as

ISO 26262 . Area of Responsibility Control System Design Develop control algorithms for E-Diff systems including torque vectoring, traction control, and axle balancing Translate vehicle-level performance targets into system-level control strategies and software requirements Model and simulate control logic using MATLAB/Simulink and Stateflow Collaborate with vehicle dynamics, propulsion, and software architecture teams to ensure seamless integration Calibration & Testing Calibrate E-Diff control parameters to optimize performance, energy efficiency, and drivability Conduct vehicle-level testing across various drive modes and environmental conditions Use tools such as ETAS INCA, Vector CANape, and CANalyzer for calibration, data logging, and fault analysis Support software flashing, debugging, and validation during prototype and production phases Functional Safety & Requirements Conduct Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) and support ASIL decomposition Author and manage functional and technical safety requirements for E-Diff systems Ensure traceability of safety requirements through the V-model development lifecycle Collaborate with safety managers and system architects to develop safety concepts and support safety case documentation Knowledge / Experience Bachelors or Masters degree in Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field Strong experience in propulsion controls, software calibration, or vehicle dynamics systems Strong proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, embedded C, and calibration tools (INCA, CANape) Solid understanding of BEV architectures, torque coordination, and E-Diff control principles Experience with ISO 26262 and functional safety lifecycle activities Familiarity with vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay) Excellent analytical, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills Preferred Qualifications Experience with Vehicle Supervisory Controller (VSC) architecture and multi-domain feature integration Exposure to AUTOSAR, model-based development workflows, and HIL/SIL platforms Knowledge of traction control, regenerative braking, and energy optimization strategies Certification in functional safety (e.g., TV Functional Safety Engineer) Experience working with OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers in propulsion or chassis domains In return for bringing your expertise to our business we offer a competitive salary along with excellent benefits including: Pension Scheme
