Propulsion Controls & Calibration Engineer
to lead
issue triage and resolution
for control systems in electrified propulsion platforms (xHEV: HEV, PHEV, MHEV). This role is critical in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving control-related issues across software, calibration, and system integration domains. You will work closely with software developers, calibration engineers, system architects, and validation teams to ensure that propulsion control features operate reliably and meet performance, safety, and compliance targets. Area of Responsibility Issue Triage & Root Cause Analysis Lead triage of control system issues related to torque delivery, energy management, regenerative braking, and hybrid mode transitions Analyze vehicle logs, fault codes, and calibration data to identify root causes Coordinate cross-functional investigations involving software, calibration, and hardware teams Prioritize issues based on severity, impact, and program timelines, and track resolution progress Debugging & Validation Support Support on-vehicle and bench-level debugging using tools such as ETAS INCA, Vector CANape, CANalyzer Validate fixes through regression testing in MIL, SIL, HIL, and vehicle environments Collaborate with calibration teams to refine control parameters and ensure robust system behaviour Documentation & Communication Maintain detailed records of issue investigations, resolutions, and lessons learned Interface with program managers and technical leads to report status, risks, and mitigation plans Ensure traceability between issues, requirements, and software releases using tools like JIRA, DOORS, or Polarion Knowledge / Experience Bachelors or Masters degree in Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field Strong experience in propulsion controls, software calibration, or hybrid system development Strong understanding of xHEV architectures and control strategies (e.g., torque blending, SOC management, regenerative braking) Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, embedded C, and diagnostic tools (INCA, CANape, CANalyzer) Experience with vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay) Excellent analytical, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills Preferred Qualifications Experience with Vehicle Supervisory Controller (VSC) architecture and multi-domain feature integration Familiarity with ISO 26262, ASPICE, and model-based development workflows Exposure to HIL/SIL platforms and automated test environments Certification in software testing or safety engineering (e.g., ISTQB, TV Functional Safety Engineer) In return for bringing your expertise to our business we offer a competitive salary along with excellent benefits including: Pension Scheme
