. Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery. The Role: As the Quality Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for driving product and process quality across vehicle programs or manufacturing operations. Youll lead cross-functional quality initiatives, manage supplier quality performance, and ensure robust issue resolution from development through launch and into production. This role demands deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence across engineering, manufacturing, and supplier networks. Area of Responsibility Quality Strategy & Leadership: Define and execute quality plans for new programs, engineering changes, and production ramp-up. Lead cross-functional quality reviews, risk assessments, and control plan development. Problem Solving & Issue Resolution: Drive root cause analysis and permanent corrective actions for product and process issues. Lead structured problem-solving using tools such as 8D, DMAIC, and Ishikawa diagrams. Supplier Quality Management: Oversee supplier APQP, PPAP submissions, and quality audits. Monitor supplier performance and drive improvement plans for critical components. Launch & Build Support: Provide on-site support during prototype and production builds. Ensure quality gates are met and deviations are managed effectively. Compliance & Standards: Ensure adherence to internal quality standards and external regulations (IATF 16949, ISO 9001, etc.). Support homologation and regulatory compliance activities where applicable. Continuous Improvement: Identify systemic issues and lead initiatives to improve product robustness and process capability. Champion lean quality tools and digital solutions to enhance visibility and efficiency. Reporting & Communication: Deliver clear, data-driven reports to senior leadership on quality KPIs, risks, and mitigation plans. Represent the quality function in program governance forums and customer reviews. Knowledge / Experience Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related discipline. Strong experience in automotive or complex manufacturing environments, with a focus on quality engineering. Strong knowledge of quality tools and methodologies (FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, 8D, etc.). Experience with supplier quality, launch support, and cross-functional issue resolution. Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and analytical skills. Preferred Attributes Experience with electric vehicle programs or advanced propulsion systems. Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, or equivalent. Familiarity with digital quality systems and data analytics tools. Passion for driving excellence, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
