ROLE: Quality Engineer LOCATION: Oxford, UK SALARY: £40,000 – £55,000 per annum
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quality Engineer to join a precision engineering and manufacturing business based in Oxford. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring product conformity, process compliance, and continuous improvement across production, inspection, and supplier quality activities. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical knowledge, effective communication, and a proactive approach to maintaining world-class quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as a key liaison between customers, suppliers, and internal teams on all quality-related matters. Conduct internal, supplier, and system audits , ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 and customer-specific requirements. Manage non-conformances, customer complaints, and root cause investigations using structured methods such as 8D and 5 Whys. Lead operator training in inspection techniques, measurement methods, and equipment usage, including preparation of work instructions. Oversee the management and calibration of measurement and test equipment, ensuring traceability and accuracy. Review complex engineering drawings to define appropriate inspection and measurement strategies. Prepare and maintain inspection and test documentation , reports, and quality control plans. Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance inspection processes, equipment capability, and data analysis. Participate in project meetings , providing quality input during design, manufacturing, and validation phases. Conduct supplier audits and performance reviews , providing feedback and improvement recommendations.
Skills & Experience:
Minimum of five years’ experience in a Quality Engineering or equivalent role within a manufacturing or engineering environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office and general PC-based systems. Strong understanding of inspection methods and measurement techniques , including interpretation of complex mechanical drawings. Proven ability to train and coach employees in quality and inspection-related topics. Effective project management and communication skills , with experience liaising directly with customers and suppliers. Completed Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
Preferred:
Experience with CMM programming supported by formal certification. Familiarity with Hexagon or equivalent CMM systems using tactile and laser probes. Recognised ISO 9001/9000 Auditor qualification . Strong background in data-driven analysis and quality reporting.
