Job Title: Risk Engineer Location: Flexible / International travel required (notably South America) Sector: Refinery, Petrochemical, Chemical, COMAH, Oil & Gas, Upstream
Role Overview We are seeking experienced senior engineers with downstream and upstream sector expertise to join a specialist risk engineering team. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence risk management and insurance placement across a global portfolio of industrial assets, with a strong focus on process safety and risk improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct 10–12 detailed surveys annually of offshore and onshore industry assets, primarily in South America.
Deliver accurate underwriting reports that represent client asset risk profiles to insurance markets.
Advise clients on risk management improvements and best practice implementation to enhance process safety performance.
Calculate estimated maximum loss values for major incident scenarios using specialist software.
Collaborate with client executives, brokers, and claims teams to support insurance placements, tenders, and proposals.
Produce thought leadership materials to advance client understanding and management of process safety topics.
Engage in ongoing training and professional development, supporting a broad range of career growth opportunities.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.
Extensive experience within the energy sector insurance industry.
Strong communication skills, capable of liaising with senior management and delivering presentations.
Highly organised with the ability to meet report deadlines and coordinate complex site visits internationally.
Advanced engineering skill set including process engineering, process safety management, operations management, construction project management, asset integrity, and emergency response.
Preferred Attributes
Experience with major operators or manufacturers in the industry.
Previous senior management or technical leadership roles.
Master’s degree or further specialist training.
Chartered status or eligible for chartered status with professional bodies (e.g., IChemE, IET, IMechE).
Fluency in English and Spanish.
Experience in project management and commissioning.
