From driving trains within the depot to servicing and maintaining our rolling stock, you'll play a key role in making sure our operations stay on track. Can You See Yourself: Keeping Things Running Smoothly: Servicing, maintaining, repairing, and overhauling our trains to ensure they meet Northern's high standards. Controlling Train Movements: Safely driving and shunting trains within the depot and sidings in line with Network Rail Group Standards and depot instructions. Supporting Depot Operations: Preparing and marshalling vehicles for their next journey, including coupling and reforming vehicles. Maintaining Cleanliness: Replenishing train interiors, filling toilet header tanks, and ensuring all vehicles are presentable and passenger-ready. Pitching In as a Team Player: Supporting additional tasks such as forklift driving (where trained), washing vehicle exteriors, and assisting team members as needed. Are You: A Team Player? You'll collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth depot operations and effective communication. Technically Skilled? Whether you have experience with mechanical/electrical systems or are eager to learn, your practical skills will be key. Organised and Detail-Oriented? You'll keep records up to date and ensure all tasks are completed to a high standard. Flexible and Adaptable? Depot life is dynamic-no two days are the same, so being ready to adapt is essential. Qualified and Ready? you will need to undertake safety-critical training. No train-driving experience? No problem! Our comprehensive training will take you from the classroom to the cab in just 5-8 weeks. After that, you'll spend up to 6 months at our TrainCare Centres, where our expert team will support you every step of the way. Please note this role is safety critical and is subject to Rail Safety & Standards Board (RSSB) regulations. You MUST meet the following criteria for this position, or your application will be automatically rejected: Currently live within a 45-minute car journey from the TrainCare Centre you work from. Be at least 18 years of age at the time of application. Pass the safety critical medical assessment, including drugs and alcohol screening. Have no defective colour vision.
