This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Backend Engineer, Data Frameworks (Ruby) in APAC, Canada, or EMEA.

In this role, you’ll contribute to the design and evolution of robust data frameworks that ensure scalability, reliability, and performance across large-scale systems. You’ll work with a global team of engineers to build tools and infrastructure that enable developers to safely manage data across multiple environments. This position is ideal for a backend engineer passionate about data architecture, performance optimization, and open-source collaboration. You’ll have the opportunity to shape frameworks used by thousands of developers, driving data health, scalability, and innovation across both SaaS and self-managed platforms.

Accountabilities

• Develop and enhance backend frameworks and tools that ensure safe and scalable data operations across diverse deployment environments.
• Collaborate closely with product management, UX, and frontend teams to design, implement, and iterate on new features.
• Identify potential infrastructure saturation points and design preventive, scalable solutions.
• Review and improve database-related code changes, ensuring performance and reliability.
• Create documentation, standards, and best practices to guide teams in optimizing data performance.
• Design and implement tooling to detect and mitigate potential database or performance issues before they escalate.
• Engage with cross-functional teams to deliver features that enhance data integrity, observability, and scalability.
• Contribute to open-source initiatives and support community-driven improvements.

Requirements

• Extensive experience as a backend engineer, with a strong focus on Ruby or Ruby on Rails.
• Proven track record working with PostgreSQL in large-scale production environments.
• Deep understanding of software design, algorithms, and system performance optimization.
• Excellent written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote environment.
• Strong sense of ownership, organization, and initiative in solving complex data challenges.
• Passion for open source development and community collaboration.
• Bonus qualifications:
• Experience with Kafka, NATS, or other distributed messaging systems.
• Familiarity with migrating large datasets and designing scalable data pipelines.
• Prior work in developer tools, SaaS, or enterprise software environments.
• Background in computer science or equivalent practical experience.
