You will play a key part in developing designs, specifications, and methodologies for cable systems, ensuring projects meet both client and regulatory requirements.

Are you an experienced Design Engineer with a strong background in high-voltage cable systems?

Turner Lovell is recruiting a Senior Cable Systems Design Engineer for a leading utility and engineering company. This role offers the chance to work on major cable installation projects, from concept through to delivery, supporting procurement, operations, and commissioning teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce cable system designs, specifications, and tender documentation in line with national and international standards.
• Act as a technical point of reference for installation methodologies, ensuring procurement and delivery teams have clear guidance on cable pulling and associated works.
• Develop complete design packs for both the design and construction phases, including drawings, calculations, and technical reports.
• Work closely with manufacturers and suppliers to ensure cost-effective solutions and up-to-date technical compliance.
• Perform cable rating, induced voltage, pulling force, and crossing studies using appropriate modelling software.

Ideal Profile

• Strong knowledge of HV / EHV cable construction, design, installation, and testing.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Systems, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Familiarity with power industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
• Competency with design tools such as AutoCAD, CYMCAP, ELEK, Cableizer, SketchUp, or similar.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Previous experience working with transmission or distribution network operators is advantageous.
