Senior Data Engineer (SC Cleared)

Overview
Version 1 is looking for an experienced data engineer to join its Managed Services team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in implementing DWH/Data Visualisation solutions, along with data ingestion and transformation pipelines for large-scale operations. You will work within a blended team of junior engineers up to Principal Architects and have opportunities to develop skills across the Microsoft stack. This role supports projects for many clients across several industry sectors, providing exposure to different technologies and platforms from on-premise solutions to Cloud.
Responsibilities
- Implement data warehouse and data visualisation solutions, and build data ingestion and transformation pipelines for large-scale operations.
- Work in a fast-paced environment, prioritise workload, and operate with initiative.
- Collaborate with a team ranging from junior engineers to Principal Architects and participate in knowledge sharing; identify gaps for training and progression.
- Engage with multiple clients across industries; gain exposure to different technologies and platforms, including on-premise and cloud solutions.
- Adhere to coding standards and best practices; support full lifecycle activities including analysis, design, development, testing, user acceptance testing, and production implementation.
- Communicate technical issues effectively to business users; develop understanding of clients’ business, applications and users.
- Identify, recommend, and implement continuous service improvements; perform some DBA tasks such as performance tuning, sizing, backups, upgrading, migrating, as appropriate.
- Knowledge of source control solutions (e.g., Git) and DevOps practices; ITIL knowledge and service management principles.
- Ability to work under pressure, handle complex change, and prioritise key activities; flexibility to move between clients, projects, and technologies.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience across the Microsoft BI Stack including SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, and Power BI.
- Experience supporting, creating, and enhancing ETL solutions using Azure Data Factory.
- Knowledge of Azure resources that enhance BI solutions (Azure VMs, Azure SQL Database, Log Analytics, Logic Apps, Azure Analysis Services, Azure Data Lake, Databricks, Azure Key Vault).
- Strong SQL skills with the ability to write performant queries and stored procedures; ability to troubleshoot and reverse engineer issues to the source.
- Design, build, and reverse engineer Power BI reports using multiple data sources; understanding of DAX and Power Query.
- Working knowledge of other BI tools (Qlik, Tableau, AWS QuickSight); familiarity with other databases (Oracle, MySQL).
- Experience with disaster recovery methods and capacity planning for on-premise and cloud-based solutions.
- Ability to estimate work pieces and deliver on estimations; potential to perform DBA tasks such as performance tuning and backups.
- Knowledge of source control (Git) and DevOps practices; ability to work under pressure and manage change.
- Desirable: some knowledge of Amazon AWS; Attunity Replicate is advantageous.
