The Role

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer who can design, deliver, and scale robust data infrastructure that powers our social and environmental analytics. You’ll implement modern data stacks with a strong focus on observability, quality, and cost-efficiency.

  • Build and operate data pipelines and warehouses using tools such as BigQuery, PostgreSQL, and cloud-storage for raw data ingestion
  • Use orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow) and infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform) to manage workflows and deployments
  • Implement layered data architecture (raw, refined, trusted layers) to ensure data is clean, versioned, and usable by downstream ML / analytical teams
  • Collaborate with data scientists, product, domain experts to integrate diverse data sources (IoT, satellite / remote sensing, open and proprietary datasets)
  • Establish observability, data lineage, governance, and security standards
  • Contribute to CI/CD practices and help ensure reliability, monitoring, and cost control

Your Experience

You’re a seasoned engineer with strong technical judgement and a passion for tech-for-good impact.

  • 4+ years in data engineering or backend engineering roles
  • Excellent proficiency in Python, SQL, and working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL
  • Experience with cloud platforms (preferably GCP) and cloud-native services
  • Hands-on with orchestration (e.g. Airflow), data transformation frameworks (DBT or similar)
  • Experience building, maintaining, or deploying layered/medallion-style architectures (raw / transformed / curated/trusted data layers)
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure as code (Terraform or equivalent), CI/CD, and monitoring / observability
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, cross-functional team, collaborating closely with non-technical domain experts
