Senior Data Engineer
New Yesterday
At Kato, we’re not just building software, we're transforming how commercial property operates. Our all-in-one platform powers the UK’s top real estate firms, helping them run smarter, faster, and more transparently with rich industry data and AI-backed tools. Backed by top-tier VCs and already used in 80% of the UK CRE market, we’re growing fast and we’re just getting started.
We’re now looking for a Senior Data Engineer to become our sole data engineer at Kato. This is a unique opportunity to own our entire data function, set the direction, and collaborate directly with stakeholders at every level from product teams through to the C-Suite. You’ll have the visibility, autonomy, and influence to shape how data drives decisions across the business.
At Kato, we believe that great people are as important as great engineers. We value curiosity, collaboration, and clear communication as much as technical expertise because it’s the combination that makes our team exceptional.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Own the data platform: Take full responsibility for our data infrastructure, from pipelines and modelling to warehousing and BI tools.
- Architect and scale pipelines: Build and optimise production-ready pipelines (Python, dbt, Redshift/Databricks) that transform raw data into high-quality, trusted insights.
- Drive data strategy: Define our data roadmap and make decisions that ensure scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency as we grow.
- Collaborate with the business: Work with stakeholders across product, sales, finance, operations, and the C-Suite to understand needs, define KPIs, and deliver accessible, business-critical data products.
- Champion best practices: Establish standards for modelling, governance, observability, and documentation from day one.
- Enable insight and impact: Build gold-standard datasets and dashboards (Amazon Quicksight, Tableau, Looker) that power strategic and operational decisions.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or a related technical role
- Expert-level SQL and strong Python engineering skillsProven track record with modern cloud data warehouses (Redshift, Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery)
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining ELT pipelines with dbt in production
- Deep understanding of data modelling principles (e.g., bronze/silver/gold, star schema, Kimball)
- Familiarity with orchestration (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect) and ingestion tools (Fivetran, Airbyte)
- Strong grounding in software engineering best practices -Git, CI/CD, testing, code reviews
- A confident communicator, able to collaborate effectively with technical peers, non-technical teams, and senior leadership
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with Spark or distributed systems
- AWS ecosystem expertise (Lambda, S3, ECS, etc.)
- Knowledge of reverse ETL workflows and data activation tools
- Exposure to streaming architectures (Kafka, Kinesis, etc.)
- You’ve established Kato’s data function as a trusted source of truth across the business.
- Our data platform is reliable, performant, and ready to scale with the company.
- Key metrics and dashboards are accurate, widely adopted, and powering decision-making at all levels from day-to-day operations to boardroom strategy.
- You build trust with stakeholders by being proactive, transparent, and solution-oriented.
- You demonstrate not only technical excellence but also curiosity, empathy, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
- Your presence elevates the team culture and colleagues see you as approachable, supportive, and a role model for how data and engineering should work at Kato.
- Competitive salary, bonus and equity as we want you to share in our success
- Private healthcare including dental & optical
- 25 days holiday as well as your birthday off and duvet days for when you need that extra day to recharge!
- Hybrid working 3 days in-office (Carnaby Street), 2 days WFH
- Snacks, drinks & team lunches in our Soho office
- The chance to own and shape one of PropTech’s most data-rich platforms from the ground up, with direct visibility at the highest levels of the business
