Amber Labs is seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our growing team on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract, with the potential for extension. This is a remote-first position based in the UK with 2 days a month travel.

In this role, you’ll be instrumental in architecting, automating, and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure environments that support our clients' mission-critical systems. You will work in a highly collaborative environment, focused on continuous improvement, automation, and DevOps best practices—particularly within government and public sector projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable and secure cloud infrastructure using AWS
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management using Terraform
  • Deploy and manage containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines to support rapid development and deployment cycles
  • Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to ensure system reliability, performance, and compliance
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise systems in production environments
  • Ensure infrastructure meets security, compliance, and governance standards (particularly for government environments)
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on best practices in infrastructure automation and cloud architecture
  • Support knowledge sharing and mentoring across the DevOps function
  • BPSS check is essential
  • Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer working on UK government or public sector projects
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud services
  • Proficient with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Solid understanding and experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration
  • Strong skills in Docker for containerisation
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., using GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, CloudWatch)
  • Understanding of security best practices in DevOps and cloud environments
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
