This role involves producing working specifications that meet customer requirements for the electrical, controls and automation aspect of innovation projects. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced engineer with a strong working knowledge of electronics control, instrumentation and automation.The Magnum Ice Cream Company (TMICC) is the largest ice cream company in the world and is in the process of being set up as a standalone business as it separates from current parent Unilever via Initial Public Offering (IPO). The RD&I team based at Colworth Science Park is responsible for end-to-end ice cream product experience design and innovation globally for our world-renowned brands (e.g. Magnum, B&J, Cornetto, Twister, Carte D’Or, Walls, and many more). The process development team is responsible for identifying, creating, and delivering innovative new manufacturing processes, proving them at pilot scale, and supporting the start-up of manufacturing of new innovations at full scale in factories.Role and ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Manufacturing & Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will work within an established team of experts that provide process engineering & automation solutions to support the launch of new product innovations, plus improvements to value, waste reduction, sustainability, and quality.Main tasksDesign, plan, build, wire, program, commission, modify & repair electrical, control and automation systems that form part of test rigs, prototype machines and pilot plant equipment.Ensure equipment is built for use at Colworth, with potential to be shipped to TMICC RD&I facilities or factories worldwide.Act as the main point of contact for all electrical pilot plant equipment and automation systems.ResponsibilitiesWork with Brand & Product Development Teams, Mechanical Designers, Process Engineers to produce a working specification that meets customer requirements for the electrical, controls & automation aspects of a project.Plan the electrical, control and automation aspects of the project, set timescales and define a budget ensuring on-time and in-full delivery within budget.Take on some of the Electrical and Control Design aspects of systems and produce drawings.Interact with suppliers and external contractors to buy components, build control systems or supervise build carried out by others, including wiring electrical, control, instrumentation and pneumatic equipment.Install/attend commissioning and modify as necessary for development of prototype machines and rigs on the Colworth site, and if required, at associated companies in the UK and abroad.Repair & fault find control systems, generating ideas/solutions where problems have been found with equipment.Observe electrical safety rules and codes of practice in accordance with TMICC Regulations and relevant safety legislation (e.g., PUWER and CE marking).Ensure users know how to use new equipment.
