We are Rolls–Royce SMR, and we're doing something that's never been done before. We're revolutionising an industry – and that's a once–in–a–career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job this is a legacy.

We are now recruiting for the exciting role Senior Electrical Design Engineer to be involved in delivering an industry leading, cutting edge design project for a new type of power station. Provide technical expertise across the lifecycle of Electrical Systems for the SMR nuclear power plant. This covers the delivery of the complete design of the Electrical systems, spanning system architecture, sub–system design and equipment specification and design / selection to realise the final verified design of the power station. You will do this by working closely with the engineering teams from across the power station and applying a structured systems engineering approach to design.

Responsibilities

  • Translate high–level electrical requirements into validated system/component designs.
  • Design and implement electrical solutions that meet project needs, ensuring testability and compliance.
  • Collaborate with verification teams to define and carry out testing activities.
  • Use modelling and simulation to confirm functional performance and compliance with requirements.
  • Represent electrical engineering in project teams, technical reviews, and with external stakeholders (including regulators and customers).
  • Work across multidisciplinary teams to drive standardisation and best practice.
  • Identify and mitigate risks while supporting long–term planning and strategy.
  • Desirable: previous experience within the nuclear industry; otherwise a proven record of working across the electrical system lifecycle in a regulated industry (e.g., Nuclear, Defence, Aerospace, Rail, Automotive, Oil & Gas, etc.).
  • Note: there is a statement about meeting 75% of requirements; interested candidates who meet this threshold are encouraged to apply.

What we're looking for

You'll bring a strong background in electrical engineering and a proven ability to work across the full design lifecycle – from specification through to installation, commissioning, and maintenance of safety–critical electrical systems.

  • Experience in electrical power distribution systems and components, supported by knowledge of common electrical design codes and standards.
  • A track record of developing design solutions from concept to detailed design, using robust processes and trade–off studies to deliver optimum outcomes.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering methodologies, ideally including Model–Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) applied to control and instrumentation (C&I) systems.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to apply appropriate methods to justify and underpin design solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills – you can take complex information and present it in a clear, compelling way to colleagues, stakeholders, and regulators.
