We have a new opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to work with our client in the nuclear industry.

SC Security Clearance is required for this role.

The Sellafield Project (SPRS) will provide a facility that receives Special Nuclear Material (SNM) from existing stores across the Sellafield site and processes it into a form suitable for safe and secure storage until 2120.

The project is currently in the execution phase which incorporates procurement, design, manufacture, works test, installation, and commissioning.

This role is required to provide both design support activities to the supply chain, along with completion of outstanding design scope from earlier project phases.

Furthermore, the role will include overseeing implementation of formal Design Change.

The successful Candidate will report to the group Lead or his deputy and work within a team delivering design solutions for mechanical plant and equipment both within glove box environment and supporting auxiliary equipment external to glove box. Delivery of outstanding work packages and support to manufacturing and testing queries/design changes including configuration management.

For assigned work packages produce engineering design deliverables (specification, drawing, analysis, verification or assessment of engineering) that satisfy the legal and functional requirements along with the associated performance conditions to the agreed time, cost and quality.

Deliver a safe, fit–for–purpose, fully integrated and operable design solution that meets product requirements.

Produce design deliverables that provide a fit–for–purpose integrated solution which meets specified requirements, including validation and verification, and that preserve the design intent and align with the plant configuration, as appropriate.

Ensure the design solution is able to be manufactured, constructed, commissioned, handed over, put into operation, maintained and decommissioned.

Essential Skills and Experience

Experience in the use of Auto desk inventor, Auto desk vault Basis or Vault Pro (file management).
Familiar with GPS ISO (BS 8888).
Experience in providing support to resolution of manufacturing, inspection and test Technical Queries/production permits/concessions.
Note: SME support for materials, welding NDT and design for manufacture will be made available.
Experience in managing and directing designers in delivery of mechanical plant and equipment drawings and documents.
Experience and working knowledge of plant layout, set up, installation and alignment of plant and equipment and machinery for works test, integrated test and site installation.
Experience in writing & checking works test requirement documentation and Integrated works test documents for Plant, Equipment and machinery. Interaction with CE&I engineers will be required to ensure complete multi–disciplinary interactions are addressed.
Capacity to support office based working arrangement for of up to 5 days per week (Typically a blended working arrangement, 3/2 Office/WFH based on work demand and by agreement with manager).
Visits to supplier premises may be required in support of manufacture/test issue resolution.

Experience and working knowledge of safety cases
Awareness and experience or working with SL Engineering Standards and Specifications
Experience in checking manufacturing drawings
Retrieval of information from DM desktop and other record management systems
Experience in designing in a nuclear environment and in Alpha glovebox design principals for containment
Experience in design and integration of machines in accordance with the SoMSR
Experience and working knowledge of CDM, SoMSR, PUWER & LOLER
