About The Role

The Senior Network Engineer role reports directly to the Manager, Network Operations, EMEA in the News Corp Infrastructure Operations team. The EMEA Networks Operations team is responsible for all NewsCorp EMEA sites.

The Senior Network Engineer provides technical leadership for the team, taking responsibility for promoting technical excellence and consistent implementation to provide a high performing and stable network for NewsCorp EMEA’s needs. The Senior Network Engineer has oversight of the implementations through reviewing and contributing to High-Level Designs (HLDs) and Low-Level Designs (LLDs) as well as ensuring that the delivered solutions are fit for purpose and consistent with the intentions of the design. The Senior Network Engineer also has oversight of the operational incident process, highlighting issues that need more attention and taking ownership when escalation is required. The Senior Network Engineer represents the Network team during the technical review of changes and represents the team in the absence of the EMEA Network Operations Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and contributing to HLDs and LLDs.
  • Reviewing and approving Changes.
  • Responding to Incidents and providing escalation as necessary.
  • Identifying issues within the network and recommending appropriate remediation/solutions.
  • Identifying and tracking software versions and recommending upgrades.
  • Identifying potential for improvements within the network and recommending appropriate steps.
  • Encouraging the use of automation and scripting to streamline build/delivery.
  • Encourage knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Engage with peers in Operations and Engineering across other regions to represent EMEA needs and contribute to technical excellence across the globe.
  • Produce, maintain and review network operational documentation.
  • Support network project delivery.

Required Experience

  • Experience in Network engineering or Operational support environment.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical problems.
  • A strong “operational” mindset, looking to promote stability and understanding the role of the network in supporting the business applications.
  • Proven ability to implement and manage processes.
  • Willingness to challenge existing approaches and promote improvement.
  • Good analytical and decision-making skills, able to determine the approximate impact of issues quickly.
  • Highly effective planning and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills, both written and oral.
  • Cross platform network technology, its application and strategy (working knowledge).
  • Expertise in IP inter networking, Multicast, LAN Switching & Wireless Technologies.
  • Cisco SD-WAN, ISE and Meraki.
  • Palo Alto NGFW, Certificates and Global Protect.
  • WAN Services – MPLS, Internet, P2P.
  • CCNA or CCNP.

Required Soft Skills

  • Good interpersonal skills, team skills, and strong customer focus.
  • Strong Relationship Management skills, ability to build and create lasting relationships with senior internal stakeholders and outsourced providers.
  • Ability to work across organizational boundaries, with the goal of understanding political drivers and influencers.
  • Analytical in approach to problem solving with a focus on working in a team environment with attention to results, quality and with a sense of urgency.
  • Detail, process-oriented and analytical.

Academic and Professional Qualifications Required: Cisco CCNA or CCNP.
