Overview Our client, who are a global Tier one Contractor are delivering a major infrastructure programme on a major value Substation project near Bridgwater - Running through to Q2 2028. To support this complex scheme, they are building a high-performing project team to drive successful delivery from the earliest stages. This is a site-based role around the Bristol and Bridgwater area, supporting the UK's journey to Net Zero through best-in-class programme planning, controls, and execution. Key Responsibilities Senior Planning Engineer, you will play a pivotal role across the full lifecycle of the project. Your responsibilities will include: Programme Development & Management
Develop, maintain, and manage robust, fully resourced, and logically linked programmes across all project phases. Lead the development of strategic tender plans and proposals, using your planning insights to influence bid outcomes.
Project Delivery & Control
Oversee the contract programme and ensure alignment with both commercial and operational requirements. Identify and manage risks and opportunities across the programme, incorporating mitigation plans into the schedule.
Reporting & Communication
Deliver accurate planning updates, KPIs, dashboards, and reports to senior stakeholders. Conduct critical path analysis and maintain up-to-date reporting against baseline metrics.
Collaboration & Mentorship
Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial teams, and Clients to ensure programme integrity and cross-functional coordination. Mentor and support junior planning staff, encouraging a collaborative planning culture.
Continuous Improvement
Contribute to the evolution of planning processes, systems, and methodologies, promoting best practice and innovation.
What We're Looking For We are seeking an experienced and proactive planning professional with a strategic mindset and the confidence to lead across all levels of project execution. You will bring:
A degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline. Proven experience in planning roles on large-scale infrastructure or energy projects. Expert proficiency in Primavera P6, with knowledge of Asta Powerproject as an advantage. Deep understanding of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, earned value analysis, QSRA, and TRA techniques. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a structured approach to problem-solving. Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced, hybrid delivery environment.
