This role is based in multiple locations in the United Kingdom and involves helping evolve the department's new AWS-based developer platform into a full Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering.

Salary: £63,824 to £83,778 (including allowances) plus excellent Civil Service benefits and pension.

Responsibilities

  • Provide development teams with tools such as observability, monitoring, dashboards, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Design and scale DBT’s global product platform.
  • Evangelise service-level objectives and negotiate error budgets.
  • Participate in an on-call rota (with allowance).
  • Drive improvements in developer experience, streamlining deployment and boosting productivity.
  • Projects include: rolling out an observability tool for system monitoring, automating deployments to reduce downtime, and developing CLI tooling for developers.

You’ll work with: AWS, Azure, Terraform/CloudFormation, Docker, ECS/ECR, ElasticSearch/OpenSearch, Python/Django, PostgreSQL (RDS), Sentry, Redis/Elasticache.

Qualifications

  • Cloud experience with AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
  • Ability to build reliable, well-tested infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, AWS Copilot, CloudFormation, Pulumi).
  • Fluency in one or more programming languages, writing clean and effective code.
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix fundamentals and TCP/IP networking.
  • Ability to evaluate user impact of infrastructure and platform changes, with a focus on developer experience.
  • In-depth experience of designing solutions to complex technical problems independently.
  • Desirable: experience designing/implementing Docker images and prototyping with open-source components.
  • Civil Service pension with average employer contribution of 28.97%.
