Overview
Senior Design Engineer (RTS/SCADA/ Substation Automation) – London or Stowmarket (Hybrid, Office, Site) – Permanent. Competitive Salary + Car/Car Allowance + Flexible Benefits.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain SCADA/communication systems for a variety of clients in sectors including utilities, oil and gas, manufacturing, industrial automation and various other communication networks.
- Configure and optimize network infrastructure & communication protocols (e.g., IEC 61850, DNP3, PRP, PTP, NTP, Modbus, OPC, Profibus) for seamless integration with field devices (RTUs, PLCs, IEDs); ensure stable connectivity between SCADA centres & remote sites; configure secure VPNs & remote access protocols for safe, off-site monitoring and control.
- Understand client requirements and produce network architecture philosophy diagrams, IED telecommunication diagrams, SCADA & Telecommunication Panel designs, Network IP allocation, I/O Schedules, Cable & Core schedules.
- Assist with setup and commissioning of SCADA systems at client sites; troubleshoot field devices and network issues; perform preventive and corrective maintenance on SCADA infrastructure and related hardware.
- Efficiently design/develop SCADA/communication systems (e.g., Ignition, Siemens WinCC, GE iFIX) to ensure real-time data acquisition and control for critical infrastructure.
- Conduct system upgrades, testing, and validation for new features, components and patches.
- Implement cybersecurity measures to safeguard SCADA systems against emerging threats.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth integration and deployment of SCADA systems.
- Provide technical documentation and training materials for system users and maintenance staff.
- Support on Protection & Control Design for Transmission & Distribution sector of utilities.
- Technically assess engineering problems and evaluate a range of technical solutions.
- Communicate effectively to demonstrate diligence, prioritize tasks, and ensure understanding of relevant legislation, including CDM and ESQCR.
- Review and provide constructive feedback on reports and drawings from Junior Engineers; mentor and guide Junior Engineers.
- Adhere to the company’s SHEQ requirements and GSOP in day-to-day responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering (Electrical preferable)
- Chartered Status (Preferred): Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a professional body such as IET or IEE (highly desirable).
- Good understanding of CDM 2015 Regulations & ESQCR
- Full UK Driving License
- 11kV up to 400kV detailed design experience
- Knowledge of AutoCAD is essential
- CSCS (or similar – SHEA Power) Card Holder (Desirable)
- Health & Safety qualification (NEBOSH, IOSH or similar) (Desirable)
