Overview
Senior / Principal Public Health Engineer (Process Water Specialist) – Arup, Bristol, United Kingdom. Location: Bristol (Cardiff or Birmingham).
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of public health engineering services on complex, multidisciplinary projects across sectors, ensuring technical quality and timely delivery within budgets.
- Provide specialist expertise in process water systems, particularly for mission-critical environments such as data centres and industrial facilities; advance the team’s capabilities in this area.
- Mentor less experienced team members and foster knowledge sharing and continuous improvement; collaborate with clients, architects and interdisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, sustainable design solutions.
- Contribute to achieving net zero carbon goals by considering environmental impact at each project stage.
- Manage project finances, including preparing fee proposals and engaging in commercial discussions with clients.
- Support business development and bid preparation; embrace digital tools and automation to enhance project delivery.
- Collaborate with the Building Services Engineering team and closely with other disciplines in the region to deliver integrated solutions.
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Building Services, or related field, with Chartered Engineer status (or near Chartered) with a recognized institution (e.g., IMechE or CIBSE).
- Extensive experience in public health/building services engineering with specialist knowledge of process and cooling water systems, including water treatment technologies, water quality management and cooling water systems. Experience with medical or compressed gas systems, fire suppression, and below-ground drainage design is beneficial but not required.
- Proven leadership on large-scale, complex projects in science and industrial sectors, with strong awareness of relevant legislation and sustainability standards (including UN SDGs).
- Skills in project and team management, including mentoring, workload coordination and financial oversight.
- Proficiency in BIM tools (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD) and a commitment to digital innovation in design and delivery.
