Due to continued success and new framework awards, we are looking to strengthen our internal design team by recruiting a Senior Process Design Engineer. Our internal design team are involved in all phases of the project lifecycle from feasibility studies through to detailed design and construction support. The ideal candidate will have a background in Process Engineering within water/wastewater as they will be covering water treatment, water distribution and storage and wastewater recycling whilst also being instrumental in providing technical support across the business.
Reporting to the Process Design Manager, duties include but are not limited to;
Working as part of a multi-disciplined team of Engineers, primarily on UK Water Industry Frameworks
Manage multi-discipline design interfaces and integration of the Process design elements to deliver fit-for-purpose engineering solutions
Lead tasks on a major project or lead several projects of moderate scope with complex features
Interpret, understand & challenge project requirements from client documents (project scope of work, drawings, specifications, correspondence, etc.)
Coordinate with colleagues to request condition surveys of existing processes and assets Be responsible for development and checking of the following Process drawings, documentation and detail design deliverables to facilitate the design, installation and commissioning of Water & Wastewater Treatment Plants:
Design calculations (E.g. mass balance calculations)
Design sketches/drawings using CAD software (E.g. process flow diagrams, P&ID drawings, etc.)
Technical reports
Process control philosophies Take a role in HAZOP meetings, whether that be through the roles of Lead Process Engineer or Facilitator
Apply a fundamental understanding of hydraulics, surge analysis and mitigation, rheology of wastewater sludge, Newtonian and non-Newtonian system dynamics
Apply a comprehensive understanding of other discipline requirements and interactions required to deliver a unified and complete design solution
Maintain a technical knowledge base and keep up to date with new methods, products and developments affecting the Process engineering discipline and recommend new practices or changes in application
Collaborate closely with internal teams, clients, external design partners and subcontractors to develop and deliver innovative, compliant solutions
Proactively drive a H&S focus throughout the design process and subsequent delivery phase, instigating development of design risk assessments to address risks identified during review activities
Identify and escalate all instances of design change throughout the project lifecycle
Undertake technical bid evaluations, subcontractor/supplier design reviews and integrate compliant outputs into the design development process
Work with the Engineering Manager / Process Design Manager to monitor design effort against budget, schedule and quality requirements
Provide technical support and guidance to site teams during installation/commissioning
Develop & review project documentation for compliance with relevant Client & UK water industry standards, regulations and Company QA processes
Manage the project specific design interfaces with Clients, external consultants, subcontractors and suppliers
Promote technical excellence and innovation within the team, contributing to the development of new design methodologies and tools Present and justify engineering solutions to complex problems in a client/stakeholder facing environment
Apply excellent written and verbal communications skills along with a high level of computer literacy
Lead, mentor, and develop junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
Attending industry conferences Qualifications/Background/Skills:
This role is suited to technically strong, commercially aware candidates with a background in Process engineering in the water & waste water industries. You must be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills/knowledge and behaviours:
IChemE accredited MEng degree or IChemE accredited BEng/BSc
Chartered membership of relevant professional institution an advantage but not essential
Minimum 3 years experience delivering multi-disciplined engineering projects in the water/wastewater industry
Detailed and broad knowledge of industry standards and engineering principles
Capable of managing and prioritising multiple projects
Being fully conversant with the Microsoft Office suite of products About us;
