The Role
Senior Process Development Engineer — Location: Bristol, UK. Type: Full-time, Permanent.
This is a senior process engineering role where you’ll lead the design, optimisation, and scale-up of bioreactor processes, ranging from 1L bench scale to 2,000L pilot/commercial scale. You will guide both internal teams and client projects, ensuring manufacturing processes are efficient, scalable, and commercially viable.
You’ll work across a variety of cell systems — from animal to plant cells, suspension to adherent cultures, primary cells to iPSCs. You won’t need to be an expert in all, but you’ll need to adapt and apply your engineering skills to each challenge.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and scale-up of bioprocesses from bench to pilot and commercial scale (1L–2,000L+).
- Provide technical guidance across multiple client and internal projects.
- Optimise bioreactor monitoring, control, and process intensification strategies (perfusion, semi-continuous, continuous).
- Drive efficiency and sustainability in manufacturing processes.
- Oversee commercial manufacturing runs, ensuring delivery of high-quality products.
- Lead and mentor a team to achieve project milestones.
- Ensure safe working practices and compliance with quality management systems.

- 3-5 years’ experience in cell culture bioprocess development or commercial biomanufacturing.
