About the Role
The Senior Software Engineer II role is a key contributor position supporting the curation, development and supply of Schedules data, a foundational Cirium dataset used by internal stakeholders (Data Operations, Data Delivery and Supply Management) and a large customer base. This role performs complex research, design, and software development assignments, and contributes to project plans, schedules, and methodology in the development of cross-functional software products. It is a strong software engineering role across multiple systems requiring deep understanding of data processing and curation; mentors junior team members; communicates with users/customers to translate requests into solutions. Supporting a foundational dataset for Cirium's Aerospace customers, the Schedules Transformers are a critical function delivering Cirium’s goal of powering decisions in aviation.
Responsibilities:
- Interface with technical personnel to finalize requirements.
- Write and review portions of detailed specifications for complex system components.
- Complete complex bug fixes.
- With other Squad members, provide OOH on a rota basis to end users.
- Work with development teammates to translate complex product requirements into software designs.
- Implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews.
- Operate in various development environments (Agile, Waterfall) while collaborating with stakeholders.
- Resolve complex technical issues as necessary.
- Mentor entry-level software engineers and ensure they are knowledgeable in critical aspects of their roles.
- Keep abreast of new technology developments.
- Design and work with complex data models.
- Mentor less-senior developers on development methodologies and optimization techniques.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of Software Engineering experience.
- BS Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience required.
Technical Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
- Strong proficiency with data manipulation and optimization techniques.
- Strong understanding of normalized/dimensional data modeling principles.
- Experience with multiple data storage subsystems.
- Experience with Terraform, AWS, Airflow, Docker, GitHub Actions, Jenkins/TeamCity.
- Strong AWS skills for Athena, Lambda, ECS, ECR, S3 and IAM.
- Security-conscious development practices and industry best practices.
- Experience with applicable toolsets and test-driven development.
- Ability to write and review specifications for complex components and complete complex bug fixes.
- Strong communication skills.
