Senior Software Engineer
New Today
At UnlikelyAI, we are building the future of AI: one that is reliable, accurate and transparent. Our neurosymbolic technology harnesses the power of LLMs and generative AI, and combines it with classical symbolic technology to produce hallucination-resistant artificial intelligence for high-trust applications.
The Role
We’re looking for an experienced and pragmatic Senior Software Engineer to join our exceptional team. This role is ideal for someone who has successfully taken products from prototype to production and enjoys collaborating directly with customers to understand their needs and shape impactful solutions.
You’ll work on a range of customer-facing and internal projects, applying your engineering skills to solve complex, often novel problems. Your ability to write clean, efficient code and your comfort in navigating ambiguity will be key as we continue to develop advanced reasoning capabilities in software systems.
Collaboration will be central: you’ll work alongside software engineers, research scientists, and language engineers in a highly cross-functional environment. Our ways of working are dynamic and fast-paced, projects are delivered in weeks rather than months, and teams adapt quickly as priorities evolve.
This is a hands-on role with real-world impact, offering the chance to shape both our technology and the way it reaches users.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain high-quality software systems, taking products from prototype to production.
- Collaborate directly with customers to understand needs and shape solutions that deliver impact.
- Write clean, testable, and maintainable code with a focus on developer-driven quality.
- Apply strong CS fundamentals to design scalable, reliable, and efficient systems.
- Contribute to monitoring, observability, and performance optimisation of production systems.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, sharing knowledge and solving problems collaboratively.
- Adapt quickly to changing priorities, delivering high-quality results at pace.
What We’re Looking For
- Demonstrable experience running production systems at scale.
- Full-stack experience or deep expertise in backend development.
- Strong CS fundamentals and fluency in Python.
- Experience owning and operating complex systems in production.
- Clear grasp of observability, monitoring, and performance tuning.
- Commitment to writing high-quality, testable code and improving engineering practices.
- Relevant degree (e.g. Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or similar).
- Pragmatic, collaborative mindset with strong judgement.
- Bias for action – a natural tendency to take initiative and make decisions.
What’s In It For You
- Work on cutting-edge AI projects with both customer-facing and internal impact.
- Be part of a world-class, collaborative team with huge ambitions.
- Explore novel challenges in a fast-moving environment where creativity thrives.
- Help shape the foundational layers of a new paradigm in AI.
Working at UnlikelyAI
- We have a hybrid working arrangement, flexibly balancing working from home and office-based working
- Our office is located in Bloomsbury, approximately a five minute walk to both Tottenham Court Road and Holborn stations
- We provide free team lunches every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
- We schedule a variety of optional social and extra-curricular activities
- We have an annual offsite, usually to an international location, where we can work and socialise in the sun
Equal Opportunities
We are committed to having a truly diverse team where everyone is encouraged to be their authentic selves. We, therefore, do not discriminate in employment based on gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, political affiliation, disability, age, marital status, medical history, parental status or genetic information. Having a broad mix of people helps us to be the best we can.
