Software Engineer / Senior Software Engineer – North Yorkshire

I'm working with a leading engineering business in the subsea technology space to find an experienced Software Engineer or Senior Software Engineer to join their growing team in Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on innovative ROV systems and tooling used in some of the world’s most challenging underwater environments.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on, collaborative role where you’ll contribute to the full software development lifecycle—from concept and design through to testing, documentation, and delivery. Senior candidates will also take the lead on planning, technical direction, and mentoring.

You’ll work on systems used in real-world subsea operations, supporting projects that demand both creativity and technical rigour.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Developing software for remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and subsea tooling
• Writing and reviewing technical specifications and documentation
• Collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and production teams to ensure smooth integration
• Supporting new product development and customer training
• Leading projects and supervising engineers (Senior role)
• Taking part in continuous improvement and innovation initiatives

What They’re Looking For

You’ll need to bring:

• A degree in Software Engineering (or related discipline), or equivalent hands-on experience
• Strong programming skills in C, C++ and C#
• Experience with real-time, multi-threaded software development
• A proactive, team-oriented mindset
• 3+ years’ experience in an engineering environment for the Software Engineer role
• 10+ years’ experience and technical leadership for the Senior Software Engineer role

Bonus points for experience with:

• GUI/HMI systems, LabView, WPF MVVM
• Operating systems like QNX and Windows
• Visual Studio, Eclipse, MPLAB, or similar
• Robotic control systems or microcontroller programming
• Subsea or offshore engineering projects
• Chartered Engineer status (Senior level)

What’s on Offer

• Location: North Yorkshire (onsite 4+ days/week; potential for 1 WFH day depending on operational needs)
• Hours: 37 hours/week (Mon–Thu 8:30–16:30, Fri 8:30–16:00)
• Flexibility: Flexi-time and 4-day working week option (salary pro-rata)
• Holidays: 25 days annual leave + 8 bank holidays
• Pension: 5% employer contribution
• Benefits: Private healthcare, life insurance (2x salary), and paid overtime for salaries under £48k
