OverviewSenior Structural Design Engineer. Location: This permanent role is based at either our Halifax or Billingham office. We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Design Engineer to join our growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong background in structural steel design to contribute to technically challenging projects across the UK.Role scope: You will work on buildings such as universities, offices, and bridges, and you will not be involved in warehouses, staircases, balconies, or fabrication‑only projects. You will manage projects independently as well as collaboratively within the design team, liaising with clients, engineers, and architects, and mentoring junior team members. Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver structural steelwork design to the highest standards, in line with British and European design codes.Produce both manual and software design calculations.Lead projects either independently or within a wider team.Attend and conduct meetings with clients, engineers, and architects.Work within design budgets and report to the Head of Design.Design steel frames, members, and connections, and support temporary works where required.Coordinate with subcontractors and internal departments to meet project demands.Support and mentor graduate engineers.Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the business.Maintain strong client relationships and ensure excellent project feedback. Role RequirementsMinimum 10 years’ experience in structural steelwork design.Previous experience working with a UK-based steelwork fabricator.Degree-educated, ideally working towards incorporated or chartered status.Strong knowledge of British and European standards/codes.Skilled in using design software including:Tekla Structural DesignerTekla Portal DesignerMasterseriesS-FrameIdea StaticaCold rolled suppliers’ design softwareExperience with temporary works design is advantageous.Strong communication skills, with the ability to raise queries and coordinate effectively.Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.Commitment to working within company QA procedures.
