Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) to lead quality management across our contract manufacturing network for cosmetic and beauty products. This role serves as a critical link between our brand and third-party manufacturers, ensuring compliance with UK MHRA and China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) cosmetic regulations. The successful candidate will bring technical expertise, hands-on problem-solving skills, and a strong understanding of both Western and Chinese market expectations to drive continuous improvement in product quality and consumer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cross-Border Quality Issue Resolution
- Conduct on-site root cause analysis of quality issues at contract manufacturers.
- Collaborate with Quality, R&D, and Manufacturing teams in the UK and China to drive problem resolution.
- Deliver trend analysis reports on recurring quality issues and process optimisations.
2. Production Quality Monitoring
- Develop a real-time Production Quality Dashboard to monitor batch status, defect rates, COA issuance, and release timelines.
- Align with China-based teams on process control SOPs, ensuring consistency from pilot to mass production.
- Review Certificates of Analysis (COAs) to authorise product shipment.
3. Product Launch & Production Oversight
- Define quality standards for raw materials and packaging in early R&D stages.
- Supervise pilot, first, and scale-up productions, documenting critical process parameters (e.g., mixing temps, fill volumes).
- Monitor and mitigate production risks during on-site factory stays, ensuring timely delivery and quality adherence.
4. Supplier Audits & Capability Building
- Conduct regular GMP/ISO 22716 audits, including unannounced inspections.
- Generate Audit Reports and follow up on Corrective Action Plans to closure.
- Provide hybrid training to factory QA teams to improve understanding of quality standards and consumer expectations.
5. Knowledge Management
- Maintain detailed records of audit outcomes, incident resolutions, and regulatory references.
- Share quality insights and best practices with global teams through internal documentation systems.
Your Profile:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Pharmacy.
- Minimum 8+ years of hands-on EU cosmetic manufacturing quality experience, including 4+ years at UK-based sites.
- Demonstrated experience managing ≥3 new product launches from development to mass production.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- EU Regulation (EC) 1223/2009
- EFfCI guidelines
- China’s CSAR (Cosmetic Supervision and Administration Regulations)
- Proficient in Excel and data analysis tools.
- Skilled in on-site problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration, particularly with Chinese stakeholders.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience working in Chinese cosmetic manufacturing or supply chain environments.
- GMP or ISO 22716 certified auditor.
- Understanding of Chinese consumer expectations regarding beauty product quality.
- Knowledge of cosmetic formulation components, including preservative compatibility and active ingredient stability.
