Job description


Our client, a leading consultancy in the defence and security sector, is currently seeking a Senior Complex Systems / Safety Engineer to join their Digital Systems Assurance group. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on high-profile, technically demanding projects within a forward-thinking engineering and technology environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and assurance of safety-critical system architectures and designs.
  • Provide strategic systems engineering direction and guidance on project delivery.
  • Engage directly with senior stakeholders to shape and deliver technical strategies.
  • Develop and review artefacts supporting safety and regulatory compliance (e.g. ARP4754A, DO-178C, DO-254).
  • Translate client objectives into deliverable engineering solutions, integrating systems engineering, safety, and certification processes.
  • Support business development through opportunity capture and proposal leadership.
  • Work on cutting-edge projects, including the integration of autonomous air systems and national programmes.
  • Job Requirements:

  • Experience in safety-critical systems development, assurance, or certification within aerospace, defence, or other high-integrity domains.
  • Knowledge of standards such as ARP4754A, DO-178C, DO-254, DO-326A, IEC 61508, and/or MOD standards (00-055, 00-056).
  • Proficiency in MBSE, architecture modelling, and tools such as Cameo, Sparx EA, and SysML/UML.
  • Experience operating within MOD acquisition frameworks or supporting industry primes/OEMs.
  • Strong project leadership, communication, and client engagement skills.
  • Desirable Qualifications:

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards registration.
  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience influencing system design and assurance strategy at a programme level.
