Overview

My Client is recruiting for a Senior/Design Engineer - Electrical in the Water Sector. We are looking to strengthen our engineering team with a Senior/Lead Electrical Engineer based at our Peterborough office with hybrid working available. You will report directly to the Principal Engineer and your role will be to provide superior quality Engineering Design services to allow the company to minimise risks and maximise profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. You will coordinate the design and produce design documents and drawings taking due account of health and safety requirements, specifications and standards pertaining to the contract.

Responsibilities

• Produce design layouts which are cost effective, meet the requirements of the specification and which can be constructed and commissioned effectively.
• Consider all costs associated with the design and construction of the design solution, including design time, materials, erection and any impact on other disciplines.
• Ensure standard practices are utilised where possible.
• Maintain competitiveness; provide estimates and feedback for Proposals department.
• Work to procedures and processes to ensure the continuing development of the department.
• Assist in developing procedures and processes; monitor and review procedures and processes.
• Write, update and monitor efficient procedures to aid the smooth running of the department.
• Coordinate designs with all other disciplines internal and external to the Company to ensure design processes are coordinated for the benefit of the contract.
• Maintain files and records throughout the duration of contracts.
• Assure customer satisfaction and work within a culture where satisfying the customer is recognised as the key to achieving other objectives.
• Maintain a personal development plan and assist in supervising and developing staff.
• Ensure a safe working environment for all staff and reduce waste from departmental activities.
• Ensure that designs take account of environmental issues and all health and safety requirements.

Experience and Qualifications

• Degree in electrical engineering discipline
• Good understanding of the principles of water and sewage treatment
• Experience in managing/mentoring staff designing relevant discipline aspects of water and sewage treatment plants
• Membership of a professional institution (chartered or nearing chartership) is preferable
• Minimum: relevant discipline Engineering HND
• Ability to rationalise designs and produce economical plant layouts
• Good general knowledge of water treatment, including mechanical engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering and project management
• A flexible mind with the ability to assimilate large amounts of data
• Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly
• Computer literacy
• Driving licence
