Position Available : Senior/Principal Mechanical Design Engineer Location : Essex (4 days onsite per week) Experience needed : Proven expertise in mechanical design and development, ideally within the space, aerospace or defence, industry, with advanced CAD skills and strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and environmental engineering challenges. Experience using Creo and Windchill is highly desirable. About the role Imagine designing mechanical systems that travel to the edge of the solar system, capture images of distant planets, or help unlock the secrets of the Universe. As a Senior/Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, that's exactly the kind of impact you'll have. You will lead the design and development of bespoke mechanical solutions for imaging sensors, test cameras, front-end electronics, and all associated assembly tools, jigs, and transport packaging. From initial concept through to detailed manufacturing drawings, your designs will be high-quality, robust, and capable of surviving the extreme conditions of space. You'll work alongside multi-disciplinary teams, tackling challenges in shock, vibration, thermal management, and manufacturability. Every solution you create will contribute directly to ambitious space missions and groundbreaking scientific discovery. What we need from you: Proven mechanical engineering experience with a focus on product design and development Ability to interpret FEA results and apply insights to refine designs Proficiency in CAD software, ideally PTC Creo and Windchill Demonstrated track record of leading projects and delivering high-quality results Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and environmental engineering considerations Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills Experience with ECSS or MIL-STD standards would be highly beneficial, but not essential
