Overview

Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineers - Defence – Northern England (Cumbria). Permanent, on-site role (4.5 days per week, 37 hours; paid overtime actively encouraged). The role is with an international Defence and Weapons Systems company that is expanding its Mechanical Engineering team.

The Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineers will be part of the Mechanical Engineering team and will be involved in supporting technical changes to existing company products (Defence and Weapons Systems). This role may suit candidates from the Oil and Gas industry or another safety-critical engineering sector. It offers the opportunity to contribute to mechanical development, tests, trials and commissioning, and to help shape the next generation of defence/weapons platforms and future technology.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop the package of design evidence required to justify a safe, effective design and generate customer confidence in the design solution.
  • Specify and assist in the build of prototypes, products and systems suitable for testing.
  • Provide timely corrective actions on all assigned defects and issues.
  • Ensure commitments are agreed, reviewed and met.
  • Mentor junior engineers regarding technical matters.
  • Present effectively to technical and management audiences and stay abreast of novel technical concepts and markets.
  • Author/co-author technical reports, papers, articles, patents and presentations as required.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree level in Engineering, Mechanical or Science Subjects.
  • Ability to work with technical documentation and present to customers and wider groups.
  • Ability to solve complex engineering calculations and knowledge of FEA.
  • Engineering lifecycle background.
  • Some CAD knowledge, MS Office and comfort with other IT applications.
  • Security Clearance (SC) will be required due to the Defence products, systems, and platforms involved.
