Services Engineer
About us
At Xelix, we work with some of the world’s largest companies to automate and strengthen their financial controls. Our AI solutions redefine how Accounts Payable teams operate - moving from manual processes to automated, intelligent workflows.
Xelix is a fast-paced scale-up - things move fast and expectations are high. We raised our Series B with Insight Partners in June 2025 and are expanding aggressively, whilst remaining profitable. We have over 100 talented people pulling together to achieve our goals. Everyone is trusted to take ownership, move fast and have a meaningful impact. We prioritise personal and professional growth, keep things fun & we love to celebrate a milestone together.
In this role you’ll grow, be challenged and help shape the future of Xelix. If you’re excited about building something special with us, we’d love to hear from you.
About the role
We’re looking for a Services Engineer to join our Consulting team at Xelix. This is a unique hybrid role that combines full-scale back-end engineering expertise with direct customer engagement. The Services Engineer will play a key part in the successful delivery of customer projects and Proof of Value (POVs), acting as a technical expert who bridges the gap between engineering and consulting.
As a Services Engineer, you’ll be the technical bridge between Engineering, Consulting, and our customers - owning key deliverables across pre-sales, onboarding, and post-implementation.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a developer or back-end engineer who’s eager to move into a more customer-facing role while retaining a strong hands-on technical component.
Note: as this is a technical role within the Services function, you will be reporting into the Engineering team for technical delivery, and Services team for customer delivery.
What you'll be doing
- Partnering with consultants and sales engineers to support pre-sales activities, including POVs
- Coding and delivering custom reports, data exports, transformations, and migrations for enterprise customers
- Advising on and implementing integration workflows between Xelix and customer systems
- Collaborating with Engineering to triage and resolve technical challenges during implementation
- Acting as the technical expert in customer onboarding and project delivery
- Developing scripts, tools, and automations to streamline service delivery
- Helping shape internal delivery processes and best practices with your technical input
What you’ll bring
- Minimum 2 years back-end development experience (e.g. Python, Django, SQL/PostgreSQL)
- Experience working with APIs, data formats (CSV, JSON, XML), and integrations
- Nice to have: SSO/SAML, AWS, Terraform
- Familiarity with SaaS delivery models and cloud environments
- Strong understanding of data pipelines, ETL workflows, and file transfer protocols (SFTP, FTP, Private/Public Key Authentication etc.)
- Some customer-facing or consulting experience, or a strong interest in developing this skill set
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working in fast-paced environments with multiple concurrent projects
Considering Python Developer vs. Services Engineer?
While both roles involve strong Python skills, a Services Engineer role is better suited if you:
- Prefer tackling smaller, varied issues over working on a single large feature for weeks or months
- Self-manage priorities and handle competing tasks without needing heavy direction
- Regularly ask “How could this issue have been avoided?” and enjoy designing systems that improve efficiency
- Like working directly with clients instead of going through a Product Manager
- Enjoy handling and working with data
- Appreciate variety in your work rather than repetitive or predictable development tasks
- Manage interruptions well and can stay productive in a dynamic environment
If this sounds like you, the Services Engineer role might be the better fit.
What we offer in return
Competitive salary of £55,000 to £65,000 depending on experience
️ 27 days of annual leave (including 3 days Christmas closing), with the option to roll over 3 days
Hybrid working with two days a week from our dog-friendly Hoxton office and on-site gym
Comprehensive private medical & dental cover with Vitality
Enhanced parental leave pay
Learning & development culture – £500 personal annual budget
We’re carbon-neutral and are working towards ambitious carbon reduction goals
Lots of team socials & activities
️ Annual team retreat

And if you have a disability, please let us know if there's any way we can make the interview process better for you - we're happy to accommodate!
If you're a recruiting agency - we have an existing list of agencies we work with and we are not currently planning on expanding the list. Neither the Talent team nor hiring managers or the Support team will respond to cold outreach.
This is a full-time position, with standard working hours from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Interview Process
While the exact process may vary slightly depending on the role, our typical interview stages are:
- Introductory Call – A short Teams conversation with a Talent Partner to discuss your background and the opportunity.
- Hiring Manager Interview – A 30–45 minute Teams meeting to explore your experience and fit for the team.
- Technical Task or Presentation – A role-relevant exercise to demonstrate your skills and approach.
- Final On-site Interview – An in-person meeting with our senior leadership team and co-founders at our office.
We strive to make the process clear, efficient, and respectful of your time.
