We are working with a leading rail and civil engineering contractor delivering major infrastructure works across the Midlands. Due to continued project growth, they are looking to recruit an experienced Site Engineer to support a high-profile rail scheme in the Birmingham area.

This is a long-term freelance opportunity for an engineer with solid rail civils experience, ideally including platforms, drainage, trackside structures, or similar works.

Role Overview: As Site Engineer, you will support the delivery of day-to-day engineering duties across the project, ensuring technical accuracy, quality standards, and safety compliance in a live rail environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Setting out and surveying for rail civils works (e.g. drainage, concrete bases and platforms)

Ensuring works are delivered to design specification and industry standards

*

Maintaining daily site records, producing as-builts, and supporting QA documentation

*

Coordinating subcontractors and supporting on-site progress

*

Liaising with site management, planners, and design teams

*

Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed at all times on site

*

Assisting with permits, technical queries, and temporary works coordination

Requirements:

*

HND/Degree in Civil Engineering or relevant discipline

*

Previous experience working on rail or infrastructure projects

*

Valid PTS (Personal Track Safety) – essential

*

Strong setting out skills using Total Station, GPS and AutoCAD

*

CSCS card

*

SSSTS or SMSTS (preferred)

*

Knowledge of Network Rail standards and procedures

*

Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available)

Rate: £350 – £420 per day (outside IR35)

Working Days: Monday to Friday

*

Hours: Standard site hours (occasional weekend or night work paid separately)
