Software Development Engineer Job Description
We are seeking a talented Software Development Engineer 2 (SDE2) to join our team focusing on a critical aspect of our catalogue systems. You will play a key role in migrating and maintaining our systems, ensuring they meet the demands of increasing traffic. This project involves working on foundational database technologies to redefine data storage and retrieval in large-scale distributed databases.
Responsibilities
Debug and migrate legacy PERL code and APIs to a new platform.
Collaborate closely with SDE 3s to deliver on migration projects.
Manage and ensure the quality of code before production release.
Participate in daily standups and workstream meetings to address and remove roadblocks.
Maintain high code standards and ensure compliance with engineering best practices.
Essential Skills
Minimum 3 years of experience in building software and migration within Spring and PERL.
Minimum 3 years of experience in highly distributed systems in enterprise environments.
Minimum 3 years of experience with CI/CD environments in a cloud context (e.g., EC2, S3).
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field.
Strong fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithm design.
Proficiency in software development using Java and/or PERL.
Understanding of CI/CD, Git-based version control, and agile scrum methodologies.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Strong object-oriented design and coding skills, preferably on UNIX or Linux platforms.
Experience in building test harnesses and test infrastructure.
Familiarity with distributed systems architecture, algorithms, and relational databases.
Ability to refactor programs effectively and evaluate optimisation opportunities.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Excellent team player with the ability to estimate, plan, track, and deliver individual tasks on time.
