Are you a passionate Software Engineer looking to make a real impact? At Car Benefit Solutions, we’re on the lookout for a talented developer to join our dynamic Web Development team. As a Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain software applications, ensuring that our systems run smoothly and meet the needs of our clients and internal teams.

You will be involved in back-end development, working with Agile teams to deliver high-quality software solutions. You will collaborate with the Software Services Team to translate user requirements into technical specifications and contribute to the continuous improvement of our software development processes. The salary banding for this role is £40,000 - £45,000 per annum. The working hours are 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, on a hybrid pattern with the option to work 2 days in our Office per month following successful probation. Office attendance is expected more in the first few months due to a comprehensive induction plan.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience with Microsoft technologies (C#, .NET, Visual Studio) is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with WPF, NServiceBus, WebAPI, ASP.NET, AngularJS, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and SASS is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, document, and review code that creates and maintains CBS bespoke systems, both internally and client-facing.
  • Work with Business Analysts to understand user requirements and identify issues, impacts, risks, etc.
  • Propose system improvements and challenge existing technologies and methodologies when appropriate; identify potential cost or time savings.
  • Learn new technologies and contribute to evolving best practices in the department.
  • Size and estimate work with the team; conduct peer and code reviews.
  • Keep technical knowledge up to date and document software and systems functionality.
  • Understand how current systems are used and integrated within the business.
  • Comply with project plans, business goals, and industry standards.
  • Liaise with the marketing team to ensure public-facing material meets requirements and strategy.
  • Write well-designed, efficient code using CBS coding standards; design user-friendly screens.
  • Maintain code in Git; understand branching and GitFlow.
  • Undertake priority support on major system issues and fixes when required; monitor and correct defects.
  • Undertake R&D and investigate new technologies; understand CBS database and network/infrastructure; deploy components to servers/environments.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required; work across technical boundaries when needed.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in a relevant IT field (e.g., Data or Business Intelligence).

Skills, Knowledge & Attributes (Essential)

  • Ability to work towards strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in an Agile development environment (e.g., Kanban/Scrum; Azure DevOps or Jira).
  • In-depth knowledge of C#; experience with Web API development; proficient in LINQ.
  • Experience with ASP.NET / ASP.NET Core; familiarity with .NET Framework and .NET Core.
  • Proficient in JavaScript and TypeScript; solid HTML/CSS/SASS skills.
  • Working knowledge of Azure infrastructure; experience using Git and CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps or GitHub).

Desirable

  • Experience with Bootstrap or other responsive front-end frameworks.
  • Familiarity with containers (e.g., Kubernetes, Azure Container Service).
  • Knowledge of unit testing and mocking frameworks (e.g., NUnit, Moq, xUnit).
