Overview

The candidate needs to be self-motivated and flexible in their attitude to work within a small team to deliver projects on time and budget. We are setting up a new product line and company in the group to deliver Modular Housing using LGS Framing and are looking for an Engineer to come onboard with share options to help deliver the first development of 19 apartments.

We are looking for a Structural Engineer (SFS/LGS) to join a small team and complete the design work for a LGS modular panel project. You will design, analyse and evaluate the structural components of buildings, joint connections, and create the structural drawings and specifications necessary for construction.

You will liaise with cross-functional teams to ensure that building plans adhere to standards and regulations and meet project requirements. You will be required to work with the BBA for approval for the frame. Planning has been received for 19 apartments in Norwich designed to be built using the panel system.

The role involves work in a start-up environment and an opportunity to contribute to building the company and share in its success. The role will require a mix of working from home, at the office in Bedford and onsite. Initially, the project will involve getting the product signed off with BOPAS and multiple testing facilities, followed by delivery of the 19 apartments. Pay will depend on experience from £35k plus a bonus on delivery, share options and standard employment benefits. Office hours are 07:30-15:00, Monday to Wednesday.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyse and evaluate structural components for LGS modular panel projects.
  • Create structural drawings and specifications necessary for construction.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with standards and project requirements.
  • Coordinate with BBA for frame approval and support validation activities (e.g., BOPAS compliance and testing).
  • Assist in the development of product design and the initial development of 19 apartments in Norwich.
  • Manage time and priorities, working to deadlines and contributing to ongoing product development.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Experience with Structural Steel (SFS/LGS) design
  • Strong knowledge of industry codes and regulations
  • Ability to independently solve technical issues
  • Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Ability to create detailed and accurate engineering drawings
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and report writing skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in both team-oriented and independent environments
  • Proficient in MS Office suite

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience with BIM software
  • Experience in the construction industry
  • Good knowledge of project management
  • Proficient in Advanced Steel, Autodesk Revit
  • Experience in cold-formed steel design

Additional information

Work can be done remotely for most of the project with a few days spent in the factory in Bedford on completion of design work. Salary is from £35,000 with a bonus on delivery of the apartment scheme, share options and standard employment benefits.
